Allow me to introduce myself! My name is Lisa K. Cohen, the self-proclaimed “Queen of Kids' Birthday Parties.”

My kingdom includes princesses, pirates, pop stars, fuzzy dogs, superheroes, Santa Claus, and so many more colorful characters and party artists. Together, we have been planning and celebrating birthdays throughout Los Angeles and Orange County, California, since 1988. 

My company, Creative Parties for Kids, has been in business since the dawn of the kids character craze, emerging in 1986 as a mobile dance education company called Dance-On-Wheels. One day, a parent of one of my dance students asked me to attend their child’s party as an entertainer. The theme was Dirty Dancing (that ages me!). The dear mother just asked me to “keep them busy and happy,” so I dressed in my best dancewear and showed up with a boom box and a smile. We danced, played games, and had the best time! Through this experience, I realized that my skills as a teacher and background in acting would be perfect to create magical experiences for kids at their birthday parties. It was just about this time that theme birthday parties were becoming “a thing,” so I did a little research on kids' parties, sewed a costume or two, put on my tiara, and the rest is history.

Now, I have had the honor of leading the largest and most successful children’s event-planning company for 38 years, thriving and surviving through a divorce, arson, and a pandemic! 

It is accurate to claim that Creative Parties for Kids, under my direction, has planned, performed, decorated, and coordinated thousands of kids' parties and family events. Personally, I have played everything from a fairy princess to a cow, and most everything in between. 

My magical team of performers, costume specialists, wig artists, decorators, and educators is like family to me, as many of them have been part of this crazy circus world for years. Together, we have brought the power of pretending to so many celebrations. Along the way, there have been many challenges, and subsequently, many very funny stories. I plan to sprinkle them throughout this fun guide like confetti on a cupcake, so you are in for a treat! 

Years ago, my beautiful daughter Leah asked me a very important question.  “Momsy, what are you going to leave behind?”  This insightful comment was definitely food for thought.
